Speech Therapy

So, as I mentioned in a previous post, Xavier was screened by the "Early Steps" program here in Tallahassee to see if he qualified for speech therapy. In order to qualify, a child must fall in the "below average" category for at least two of the seven categories that they test. For this observation to occur, there was lots of paperwork, meetings to attend and then finally scheduling the observation. After a month of prep work, it took place on December 8. A parent had to attend this meeting, and because Dustin can move patients around pretty easily and I can't let 4th graders teach themselves, he attended the observation.

It took place at Xavier's school and it was basically just testing through formats of play, Q&A with dad, and conversation with Xavier. To hear Dustin talk about this experience is wonderful. Xavier showed no shyness and was more than willing to comply with the three strangers who were conducting the test for an hour. He did exactly what they told him and blew them away :) A few times, Dust said that they made comments like "your mommy must be a teacher" which obviously made me feel good :)

After it was all said and done, Xavier did NOT qualify for speech therapy, which is a good thing. He fell in the average to above average range for all of the categories. Though we were happy to take the help, it seems our little Bean doesn't need it :)

We will see the audiologist later this week and hopefully everything goes well and we can put these worries to bed :)

  1. Great news, hope the next visit is equally satisfying.
Can we get another video showing Xavier looking for the elf?
    That is so special.
