Luke: Day 2

The next day (Wednesday) Dustin woke up, got Bean dressed and off to school and was at the hospital by breakfast. He helped me shower and move around in general and then we headed down to the NICU to see our precious bundle. We were able to attempt to feed him for the first time. Up until this point, he was receiving nutrition through his IV. Unfortunately, he had just been given an IV in his head among other traumatic events so he wouldn't wake up to eat :(

The good news, however, was that he had been taken off of the oxygen and the feeding wire. He was now only connected to all of the monitors and an IV.

We spent a couple hours with Luke before I needed to get back to my room. I was sick again (stupid anesthesia) so while I rested, Dust headed back to the new house to finish up some painting and other odd jobs.

First time eating! It didn't go great...

Xavier's school sent balloons and a teddy bear :)

After I woke from a nap, I received a text from my mom that they were very near Tallahassee. My parents, Kimberly and her children had planned to vacation in Gulf Shores Wednesday-Saturday and then head here for Bean's birthday party and Luke's C-section. Because I went into labor early, it threw off their plans as well. They decided to stay in Tallahassee Wednesday night just so they could meet baby. This was WAY out of the way for them but they insisted :) They picked Beanie up from school and he was deliriously happy! He spent the afternoon playing at the park with his cousins, swimming at the hotel, and having a pizza party!

Meanwhile, Dust returned and we went back downstairs and found this on Luke's crib :)

It was a notice that we needed to attend a discharge class for Luke the following day. We began to cheer until a nurse told us that only meant it may happen soon...

Dustin and I spent the evening holding Luke and chatting. We were given the good news when we arrived that he had been taking breast milk (I had been pumping since delivery and sending it down) like a champ since we had tried this morning! Whew- one less thing to worry about!

NICU crib tag- we will keep this forever!

At around 8 PM, my parents brought Beanie back to the hospital and were able to get into the NICU to see Lukey. Before long, they all headed off. My parents were leaving early for Gulf Shores in the morning and X needed to get to bed. I said goodbye and spent another night sleeping/pumping.
