Here he comes...

Monday, June 1st was my last day of school. The day went on as normal. I kissed my 4th graders goodbye and wished them a great summer, finished up cleaning and organizing my classroom, and was on my way. Once Beanie and I got home, I immediately began to feel yucky. I told Dustin that thought I may be in labor. I had lots of back pain and cramping. I had stomach aches and nausea. I spent the entire evening on our chaise lounge and went to bed early. When Dust came to bed that night, he woke me up and told me there was remnants of blood in the toilet. I was out of it and brushed it aside, but when I woke up at 3 AM to use the restroom, I noticed that there was quite a bit of blood again. I immediately panicked. I woke Dust up and we called the hospital. They said that we needed to come in to get it checked out. I was 38 weeks and 2 days at this point and my C-section was still a week away.

We didn't know what the outcome was going to be so we packed up Beans and headed to the hospital. We arrived around 3:30 and were seen immediately. Once they took us back, they hooked me up to all of the monitors. Baby was fine (thank youJesus) and I was in active labor. I was contracting every 3 minutes. Once the on call doctor from my practice arrived, she had no answer as to why I was bleeding. She decided because I was so far along, and because of my history, that our best bet was to go ahead and have the baby right then and there. Dustin and I were both surprised. We quickly called our friend Randi (my good friend from work and Bean's swimming teacher) who jumped in the car immediately and headed toward the hospital to grab Bean. She took him for the remainder of the night (it was 4 AM, after all) and then took him to daycare. We are so thankful for her and her family!

Before Beanie left, however, we snapped our last pic of us as a family of 3!

Once Bean was gone, they took me back to the OR to prep me for surgery. It wasn't a great experience. It took them 25 minutes to get the anesthesia needle in my back. It was awful. After that, Dust was able to come back and things went quickly.

The entire time they were operating, I was asking Dustin questions about the process. He smartly decided to ignore most of them. He watched most of the procedure and described it afterward. It was very bizarre but once they were finished, I could hear our little man crying. It was amazing :)

Daddy cutting the chord!

Our first moment :)

After they cleaned him up a bit, they realized that he wasn't breathing perfectly and so he and Dust headed to my recovery room while I was stitched and glued. There, he weighed 8 lbs. 3.2 oz and 20.5 inches long. This was impressive considering he was nearly 2 weeks from being full term!

Although we didn't know it, we were in for a couple bumpy days ahead. Luckily, everything is perfect now :) More on that later!!
