After 30 minutes, he wasn't improving so they took him to the NICU for what they estimated would be 4 hours. After an hour, I was taken up to my hospital room where I would remain until discharge.
Heading for the NICU :( |
Although I was terribly upset about the baby being taken from us and his breathing, I was so out of it from the anesthesia that it really didn't "hit me" until the following day.
Dustin was able to go downstairs throughout the day and see/get updates on Luke. It wasn't until early evening, however, that I was able to get into a wheelchair and head down to see the baby. Dustin helped me and together we went to see Luke. I will never forget his little self in the NICU bed. He had on oxygen, a feeding tube, and an IV for antibiotics. He also had a million wires that connected him to monitors. It was horrible...hence my red eyes in the pic below...
We asked about his discharge but it was clear that "4 hours" had turned into more than that.
Our visit didn't last very long, unfortunately, as I got sick from the meds and had to get back up to my room.
Dustin went to get Beanie from daycare and brought him back to the hospital to see me. He couldn't see Luke because children aren't allowed in the NICU but it brightened my spirits to see my little guy :)
That night, Dustin and Xavier kissed me bye and headed for home. I spent the night alone in my room and baby stayed downstairs. While it was sad not having my boys with me, I was so exhausted from not sleeping the night before and the events of the day that I rested and tried to take advantage of the night.
