4 Week Checkup

We arrived at Bean's 4 week check up (July 6th) with a long list of questions. Most notably, his eating habits. He had gone from eating 2oz per meal to nearly 4oz...even 5oz. at certain times of the day. He also wanted to eat more frequently. I was becoming more and more worried because if he kept this up, he was going to be a formula baby that was supplemented with breastmilk rather than vice-versa.  He had seemingly over night gained a lot of extra pudge. This was to be expected as I was still supplementing about 1/3 of his feedings with formula. I was not producing enough milk to keep up with the little chunker...but that's another sad story that I won't go into :(

Going to the doctor! 4 weeks old :)

When we arrived, we plopped him down on the scale first, just as with every other appointment. He weighed an astonishing 11 lbs 10 oz! He was in the 94th percentile for his age. The fragile baby that had lost nearly a pound in the first 5 days of life was now nearly 12 lbs. The doctor assured me that he was going through a growth spurt and that the eating would calm down again soon. She suggested rather than feeding him immediately when he cried to go for a walk, turn on some music, etc. These tips worked as his food intake reduced by nearly 6 oz. per day the following week.

At this appointment, he measured 22 inches long, an inch longer than at birth. His height percentile was 73%. Also, his head circumference was 15.5 inches...80th percentile.

Dr. Gadea also checked his sinus pit once again at this appointment and assured us that it would not be an issue and he would not need any further treatment for it.

This appointment made mommy and daddy very happy :)
