Luke's Surgery

Luke had his surgeries last week. He had tubes places in his ears and his adenoids removed. We arrived at the surgery center on a Tuesday (4/5/16) at 9:30. The hours leading up to the surgery were a little hairy because he couldn't eat 12 hours prior to his surgery. Needless to say, he was a little fussy that morning.

We waited in the waiting area briefly before they called us back to the pre-op area. There, we changed Luke into his surgery attire and answered lots of questions.

After waiting about 45 minutes, it was time. They whisked him away and Dustin and I waited in the waiting room. I was a nervous wreck, however, Dustin was calm and cool.

After about 45 minutes the surgeon, Dr. Asher, came and found us. He said that the surgery went perfectly! Whew! What a relief. He said that there was TONS of thick, green fluid behind the ears that they were able to drain and clean out before they completed both procedures. We were so happy to hear that our little guy was "fixed" and on the mend!

About 10 minutes later, we heard him crying and like clock work, a nurse came and got us. We went into a recovery room where we found him still hooked up to an IV and being held by a nurse. He was still very groggy but we were able to get him to take a bottle with no problems. After about 20 minutes in recovery, we were out the door and on our way!

IV :(

It wasn't until about 5 PM that he was back to his normal self. He was fussy most of the evening, however, he ate around the clock which was good! By 7PM, he was giggling and he went down with no problems by 8PM. The doctors had said that he would be good to return to school the day after his surgery but I was skeptical. I didn't get a sub but decided I would monitor him in the evening/night and make a decision before work the next day. To my surprise, the doctors were right ;-)

He had a great night and while he still woke up several times, most of those times, he just need his pacifier or a blanket. The next morning, he woke up giggly and happy and energized so off to school he went! I checked in on him thorughout the day via Dailyconnect and his teachers couldn't believe that he had had surgery just the day before! We are so thankful that so far there have been no hiccups in the recovery process and we ask that you pray for his continued recovery and health :)
