So last week, I ended up making another appointment with the pediatrician. Luke's thrush was clearly not the problem as his screaming and discomfort continued to escalate. His symptoms became more and more severe and it was becoming difficult to feed him. Our evenings were hellish :(
I kind of expected him to have lost weight due to smaller feedings, however, he weighed 12 lbs 12 oz when the nurse put him on the scale. That meant that in just 7 days, he had gained 3/4 of a pound. This made me feel better as getting him to eat can be such a struggle.
After I spoke with the doctor and explained the symptoms, she diagnosed him with colic and reflux (GERD). These are two miserable diagnosis' and this means we are most likely in for a few rough months. The good news is that she was able to prescribe a medicine for the reflux that we have found has helped a little bit. Also, Luke is now solely on formula. Because I was pumping exclusively, hours of my day were devoted to this- time that I simply don't have with such an unhappy baby. It's upsetting to me to say the least, especially since Xavier was able to have breast milk for so long but at this point we have no choice.
So, in a nutshell, we have a healthy little guy who just has a couple issues going on and is just a little bit high maintenance. It is easy to get frustrated and upset with the situation but Dustin and I keep reminding each other that this too shall pass. He won't be screaming every evening for the rest of our lives :)
We just want to get this baby comfortable, feeling better, and happy!
Poor little guy, I don`t know how a baby feels but i also have GERD & if i eat anything that doesn`t agree
ReplyDeletewith me i`m pretty miserable. I`ve been on meds for a few yrs. Hope Luke out-grows it. I know it`s hard on
