2 ½ Year Check Up

Until last week, Beanie hadn't been to the doctor since his 18 month checkup nearly 10 months ago. The last appointment was with his pediatrician in Seminole. We made an appointment with his new pediatrician just to get an updated physical, shot record, and regular maintenance.

A perk to being a doctor in the community is that Dust knows who the "good" docs are. Xavier's doctor came highly recommended and we were LUCKY to be able to become a new patient of hers :)

Initially, we just scheduled this as a well visit/check-up. However, after a meeting with the director of Xavier's daycare, we decided to have him observed by a speech pathologist. According to his doctor, he is right on target but I had some concerns with his articulation and his daycare also noted that his speech may not be where it should be. In Bean's defense, I think that the issues that they (and anyone else for that matter) are seeing is simply due to his shy personality. He simply doesn't speak much around people other than Dustin and myself. Nevertheless, being an educator I know how critical it is to identify issues early on.

After being observed by a speech therapist, it was determined that he failed the hearing test in his left ear. We were SHOCKED by this, but before we began panicking we were assured that this is common among little boys who are "busy." It was possible that he just decided he wasn't interested in the test, or that the cold he had interfered with his hearing. Either way, we made sure to share our concerns with his doctor. She said everything looked fine and his speech was fine. She said that he was clearly a smart little guy and she couldn't get over the fact that he has been potty trained for so long. She definitely made us feel better but referred him to an audiologist just in case.

So, we go to the audiologist in December. In the meantime, he will be screened to see if he is eligible for a speech therapy program offered to children under 3. If he qualifies, we will gladly accept the therapy. We are pro ANYTHING that ensures our little guy success :)

While we were at the doctor, we got his current stats:
height- 36 inches- 78th percentile
weight- 38 lbs- 99th percentile
head- 50.8 cm

The doctor made it very clear that she was impressed with our little man. She urged us to not worry about any of his developmental stages. She thought he was perfect :)

This was his reaction to his shot...

Such a tough little guy!

His good behavior warranted a trip to the park :)
