Dustin started his 2 week break on Friday so I took the day off too. We decided we would have a cute family beach weekend!
Thursday night was rough (as they all have been lately...) and so I was up a large portion of the night with the baby. Around 7, Dustin and I switched. He was going to stay up with baby and I was going to take a quick nap. Then, we would head to the beach!
As I got back into bed, I heard a bang and then I heard baby cry :( Dustin yelled for me and I raced to the hallway where I saw baby bleeding. Oh my goodness. It was awful.
Dust had accidentally bumped a heavy decorative sconce off the wall and Xavier had been sitting under it at his feet. The corner of it hit Beanie in the head just right and gashed it open. There was so much blood...it was horrible. Xavier cried for about 5 minutes and then calmed down.
Dustin of course gave me instructions immediately...sterile wet towel, cloth ice bag wrapped in paper towel, call pediatrician. The pediatricians office was still closed and so we decided to take him to the ER.
I don't handle emergencies well...I just wondered around the house aimlessly, looking for Xavier's titi and couldn't pull myself together!
We raced the the ER and were the only people there. They put us in a room and we waited for the doctor. He confirmed what Dustin had predicted: the wound was too deep for the glue. He would need stitches :(
We waited for about an hour for the ER get it together and finally it was time for them to stitch my baby up. Dustin and my mom told me to leave...there was no reason for me to watch it and risk passing out.
After about 20 minutes I got impatient and went back in. He was screaming :(
Dust said that he took the needlse and the stitches just fine...it was when they cleaned the wound that he lost it. I walked in right at the end so I was able to hold him and comfort him as they bandaged him.
We went home and he has been in good spirits ever since. We have been keeping an eye on it and the swelling is still pretty bad. We are taking him to the doctor tonight just to make sure everything is healing correctly. He is scheduled to get the stitches out Wednesday so we will keep you updated!
Please keep Xavier in your prayers as this has been a tough weekend for him! He continues to be uncomfortable and it is no fun for us to watch him suffer :(
We thank God that it wasn't worse!!!
We are so thankful his eye wasn`t hit. Poor baby! I know you probably cried too.
