At HRES, kindergartners have to run a half mile for time. The first time X ran it, he did poorly. He had just had oral surgery the day before and to top it off, he fell off the play structure at recess that morning and blacked out! Anyway, he was super down after the first race which prompted us to start daddy workouts and mommy runs. We knew that his performance had little to do with his actual athletic ability but wanted to teach him that if he has a problem there is always a solution.
Fast forward to this December and it was time for his second run. I happened to be out at recess with my 4th graders while he was running and was able to cheer him on (like a lunatic). This time, he placed 9th out of nearly 100 kindergartners! He was SO proud of himself and mama and daddy were too!
