Oh No! A Disease...

So I mentioned in the previous post that while Bryan was in town, Xavier was a mess. He literally screamed 80% of the time and was whining the other 20%. His gums were very swollen, he refused to eat solid foods and he was slobbering like crazy so we obviously just thought he was teething. We were wrong.

After three days of this behavior, Dustin and I were at our wits end. We were going on NO SLEEP and our nerves were shot from all of the crying. Xavier has always been such a great baby that we are not use to this behavior!
Sick baby :(

On Wednesday, I noticed a blister on his tongue. It looked like a canker sore so I decided to take him to the doctor. When we got to the doctor on Thursday, I explained his behavior to our doctor and also mentioned the sore. She examined him and then to my surprise, diagnosed him with "Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease!" I was shocked. This whole time he was showing signs of simple teething but he had a disease! I began to freak out but she assured me that it was no big deal. She said that something like 70% of babies between the ages of 1 and 4 get this disease. It is not harmful to the baby...just uncomfortable. There is nothing you can do for them besides keeping them comfortable with cold foods and Tylenol.

Scaling at the doctor :)

Hey Mama!

Beautiful Baby!!

The good news is, he is back to his normal self. Blisters gone, eating is back on schedule, and sleep is almost back to normal! He is no longer in pain and we are a happy little family again :)

  1. I`m so sorry to hear you all have been having such a hard time & Xavier is getting back to his sweet, cute self. I noticed in several pics he is wearing the orange/striped outfit I gave him, glad it still fits. Love to you all & better days are ahead.

  2. Ruth,

It does still fit! He was wearing 18-24 months at Christmas time and still is! He hasn't gained a pound in months! As soon as he started eating solids and moving around more, he slimmed out a little bit :)

We miss you! Hope you are still recovering quickly!
