Two Month Check Up

Friday, Beanie had his two month checkup! Due to a change in insurance, he started seeing a new pediatrician. We chose the new doctor based on a reference given to us by one of Dustin's professors. This visit was to meet the new doctor and to check on Bean's progress. Due to final exams and classes, Dust had to skip this appointment. Deneen was in town, however, so she was able to go with me!

On our way!

Getting to the appointment was not easy. Bean's new pediatrician is located in downtown St. Pete at a large children's hospital. There were different buildings on both sides of the street for several blocks and we were unsure of which building we needed to be in. On top of the busy location and many buildings, it was POURING down rain. It was easily the hardest rainfall we have had all summer. It was annoying.

After a few wrong turns and a call to the doctor's office, we found the correct parking garage and headed to the fifth floor where Beanie would see Dr.Chavez.

Waiting to be called back!

Always so concerned!

Once we were called back, the nurse took Bean's weight, height and head circumference. As expected, he was in the 95th percentile for ALL three measurements. My precious 9 week old weighed in at a whopping 14 lbs and 10 oz. and was 24 inches tall...he's strong and healthy :)

Hanging out...

So big!

When the doctor came in, he introduced himself and we discussed shots and other milestones that Beanie would soon be reaching. He explained different ways I could help Bean to sit up and roll over (all of which I have been doing since practically day 1). He also noticed that the right side of Bean's head is slightly flatter than the left. We had noticed this many weeks ago and try to get him to lay on the left as well. For now, he simply prefers the right...no biggie :)

Notice he is facing the right...

And again....

After all of the checking and talking, the doctor mentioned one more thing that we had not discussed with our previous pediatrician. Dr. Chavez noticed that when Bean cries, he makes a weird gulping sound at the end of it, but only when he is sitting up. The gulping goes away when he is laying on his tummy. He "diagnosed" this as a floppy windpipe but said that it was "no big deal" and would likely fix itself in the months or years to come. Clearly it is not a huge issue because if it was, Beanie would have a hard time eating and breathing at the same time. His nearly 15 lb build helps me to not worry so much about it :)

Beanie will go back in a week for his 2 month shots...an appointment that Dustin will take him to since I head back to work this week.

All in all, Beanie checked out just great and we liked the new pediatrician. We are so blessed to have such an amazing little boy!

Headin' home!

First Date Post Baby! :)

Thursday, Dustin and I were able to go on our first date since Beanie was born. Yay!!

Love!

For a "baby gift" a few months ago, our friends Kristin and Colleen got Dustin and I a gift certificate to a nice restaurant and the movies. Until Deneen came into town, we really had no babysitter or time to enjoy these nice gifts. We took advantage of the opportunity and decided to get away for a few hours and just enjoy each other :)

First family pic!

Before leaving, I went over everything with Deneen once more. I knew that she was perfectly capable (she had two kids herself, duh!) but I worry about everything so we went over sleep schedules, eating schedules, diaper schedules....you get the idea.

I'll be fine, mama!

After drilling Deneen (hehe) we snapped a couple quick pics and off we went! We were both excited :)

See ya!

We went to dinner first. We ate at a restaurant called "Parkshore Grill."  It is located in downtown St. Pete, on the water.

Dinner :)

When we arrived, at the restaurant, I of course began taking pictures and documenting everything.

View from the restaurant!

This is his "Stop taking pics" face.
We ordered, ate, and enjoyed each others company. After 9 years of going to dinner together and only 9 weeks of being parents, it was already weird not having Bean with us!

Blue Lump Crab Cake to share :)

Dustin's Seafood Risotto

My Hanger Steak with Parmesian Fries

Dinner was delicious. Afterwards, we decided to walk up the street and look in the little stores. We stopped at an Italian gelato shop, Paciugo, for some yummy Italian ice cream. Dustin of course asked for about 15 samples before he chose what he wanted. The boy scooping his ice cream quickly became annoyed, but Dustin assured me that he didn't want to make a rash decision :)

Yummy!

So many different and unique flavors!

After gelato, we headed back to the car. We were off to the movie theater next. At this point, I must admit, I was missing my baby! When we got to the theater, Dustin ran to the bathroom so I took this opportunity to call Deneen! When we spoke, she assured me that everything was going fine and encouraged me to enjoy the movie. She told us to take our time and run any other errands that we needed to run while we were out. I got off of the phone and tried to not to worry about Beanie...but I could not help but miss him :(

Batman!

While we waited for the movie to start, I caught myself scrolling through pictures of Bean on my phone. Dustin proceeded to take my phone away..haha.

We watched the movie and enjoyed ourselves. It was nice! We had a wonderful time together! But after the movie, neither of us could get home fast enough to see our little Bean :)

They missed each other!

Company :)

Last night, Dustin, Beanie and I went to the airport to pick up a very special house guest! Dustin's mom, Deneen, flew in from Indiana to stay with us for about 10 days. This is the first time she and Beanie have met so we are really excited to have her!

Beanie and I spent all day yesterday preparing for our guest. When Dustin got home that evening, Bean and I were ready to go!

Here we come Grandma!

When we got to the airport, Dustin dropped me off and I headed inside to meet her. Meanwhile, Dustin circled the building, waiting for my call.

I made my way to Terminal C where I would find her. As I approached the terminal, my phone rang and it was Deneen. I answered, and after a short conversation we found each other. We headed down to baggage claim where, stunningly, her bags were already waiting on us. I called Dustin and we stood at the curb waiting on him for a few moments.

Made it safely

When Dustin pulled up, I heard baby crying. I was not happy! Deneen caught a quick glimpse of baby but because he was s upset, I sat in the back with him and we headed for home.

When we got home, Beanie was back to his normal cordial self and took to Deneen immediately! It was love at first sight :) They spent the evening getting to know each other and snuggling :)

We are excited to spend this time together and will keep you all updated on our adventures!!

My first night in my own room!

Beanie has been sleeping in his bassinet, next to our bed, from the first day he came home. Unfortunately, he outgrew it about three weeks ago :( Since then, Dustin has been on me nearly every night to put him in his crib. There were several days when I agreed to do it, but when bedtime came, I just couldn't bear the thought of him not being right next to me!

Right next to mama!

I could say I wanted him next to me for the convenience of feeding him, but that wouldn't be entirely true. Yes, I usually just feed him in bed, but honestly, I am simply comforted by the thought that I can just glance over and see him in the middle of the night. I am a constant worrier and when he is next to me I can check to make sure he is ok at anytime. Of course, I usually check on him a little too often so even when he sleeps for long periods of time, I often wake in the morning feeling less than rested.

Even Midsy likes it when Beanie is in the bassinet :)

Anyway, I knew that it was time to move him to his crib. He was waking himself up because he would smack the sides or jostle the bassinet to the point of rocking himself. He was clearly not as comfortable as he would be in the beautiful cherry crib that I just HAD to have. But, moving him into his own room meant that he was getting bigger. The thought of it still breaks my heart!

Precious 3 day old baby boy in his bassinet :)

Plenty of room to grow! (5 days old)

So tiny :)

Now...Dust calls him a sardine :(

On Sunday morning, Beanie woke up around 7AM. On the weekends, this is Dustin's shift. As I mentioned before, he graciously allows me to sleep in on most Saturdays and Sundays! I woke up around 9 and walked into the den where I usually find Dustin fiddling around on the computer and Beanie next to him playing/sleeping under his play yard.

Hi mama!

Bean's play yard!

To my surprise, Bean was no where to be seen. I looked at Dustin immediately with worry and he knew what I was thinking...where is baby? He clicked the computer screen and it took me a second to realize what he was doing. There, on the desktop, was video of Beanie in his crib. Our baby monitor does not have video and the sound is sub par at best...so Dustin decided to be inventive! He placed his iPad in the crib, upright so that he could see baby. He then set up the skype on both computers so that he could check on him at all times from the den at the other end of the house. It was brilliant and hilarious! There was bean, watching the mobile and playing nicely in his crib.

Daddy and Baby skyping...so cute!

It was then that I realized how much Bean liked his crib. I decided that it really was time for him to sleep in his own room. I had been selfish long enough. Beanie would be fine in the big bed...it was me who was having a hard time! That day, while I cleaned the nursery, Bean played in his crib.

I love my mobile!

Also, when he napped, I put him down in the crib because I wanted him to become accustomed to it. Usually when he naps, it's in the bassinet, on the floor on a soft blanket, or in his swing. I figured that practicing during the day would make it easier for me that night.

Nap time!
Well, Sunday night came quickly. I had been dreading it to be honest. I knew though, that Dustin was not going to let me back out now. At 10PM, I fed him, changed him and rocked him. When it was time to put him down, Dustin came into the nursery to assist...probably because he was sure I wouldn't go through with it...but I did!

After putting him down, we went back into the living room and watched some TV. By Midnight, we were heading to bed and checked on him one last time. He was still sleeping soundly and he looked so comfortable. I had the sudden urge to grab him and take him into the bedroom with us, but Dustin stopped me.

Sleepy baby :)

I fell asleep much more quickly than I thought I would. I drifted off and the next thing I knew, I heard Beanie whimpering. I looked at the clock and it was 4:45AM. He had slept for nearly 7 hours and I had just had nearly 5 hours of uninterrupted sleep...by far the most I'd had in 8 weeks! I ran to his aid and not surprisingly, Dustin was right behind me. We both greeted him and he was happy to see us. I took my time feeding and changing him. I rocked him a little longer than usual, and reluctantly put him back into the big crib.

I was unable to sleep after this so I spent the next hour and a half picking up the house, playing around on the computer, and checking on him constantly. At about 5:30, I fell back asleep to be greeted with his little whimper at 6. I went in and found him pouting because he had lost his binky.  I plopped it back into his mouth but it wasn't long before he was whimpering again. He had lost it again. Because I did not want to run back and forth for the remainder of the morning, I decided it best to bring him back into the bedroom with us...

He spent the rest of the morning in the bassinet or laying on my chest. I decided that this whole sleeping in the crib thing might be a gradual process :)

Mama's big boy!! :)
