Kids Say

After picking the babies up from school a few weeks ago, Xavier says out of the complete blue: "Mama, can we have chicken and broccoli for dinner tonight? I didn't make healthy choices for lunch today."
I am so proud to be raising a kiddo who knows the importance of eating well and exercise!


A cute conversation we had with X:
"When Lukey grows up he wants to be a sandwich!"


Some of the best things that Xavier has started to verbalize  are apologies. He knows when he has done something wrong and often apologizes for "making bad choices."

Kids Say...

X: "Mama when I grow up I want to fly a rocket ship!"
Dustin: "Xavier, that is called an astronaut. You want to be an astronaut and fly into outer space?"
X: "Yes! I want to drive the rocket ship. As long as I get to sit in the front seat..."



I was working on some phonics and sight words with Xavier the other day. I started this particular lesson with the letter "t" and suddenly it sparked something inside Xavier. He asked if he could have the board to show me something so I gave it to him. He dre amuch bigger "t" with a circle around it and began giving me a fraction lesson about fourths and took turns drawing sections and asking me how many parts were "shaded." THIS KID!!! He is smart just like his daddy :)

Lastly, I was in the kitchen cleaning while Luke was napping and X was drawing. He ran into find me to show me a present he had drawn for me. I was SO impressed with it that I had to take a picture! He wrote "mom" all by himself and the elephant is pretty spectacular for a 4 year old :)

Kids Say

The other day Luke gave Xavier a big bear hug and a sloppy, wet kiss. They both just giggled and giggled and then Bean said with the biggest smile on his face: "Lukey, you're breaking my heart!"

I looked down and saw this :)

They love each other so much!

Prayer

A few weeks ago, I was putting Xavier to sleep for the night and we did all of our usual things: put on comfy jammies, line up his stuffed animals, snuggle under the covers, and say our nightly prayer. The prayer we say together is this:

Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray the Lord my soul to keep,
If I should die before I wake,
I pray the Lord my soul to take.
Dear Jesus, Bless Mommy, Daddy, Xavier, Penelope, Luke, Midnight and the Fishies
Amen.

We have said this exact same words every night for 2 years. Even though we talk about Penelope in our home freely and have pictures of her on our walls, we rarely speak directly to X about her and when we have, he has not seemed to really grasp the concept.

On this particular night, however, he completely caught me off guard when he asked "Mama, where is Penelope? What does she look like?"

I could feel the tears rise instantly. I tried to keep my voice from shuddering when I answered "Don't you remember? She looked just like you and Lukey! She is in heaven with Jesus and we will see her again some day!" He immediately lit up and said "I can't wait to go to heaven so I can play with my sister!"

This conversation was wonderful and devastating all at the same time. We miss her so very much and can't wait to hold her again, and play with her, and love on her, and just be with her.

Kids Say...

 While Luke was sick, I kept Xavier home with us as well just to spend some extra time with him. As I was getting both of them ready for a doctors appointment, Xavier looks at me and says, as serious as he can be, "Mom, you guys go ahead. I will just stay here by myself."

Also, before the same appointment, I told him that he could take one toy with him to the doctor to keep him occupied. He tried to smuggle this one...a power ranger that is as big as he is...

He is growing up so fast!

Kids Say...

One morning before school, I packed Xavier for the day without his input. I threw in some snacks, a book and then a blanket. This blanket in particular is actually a grey blanket that you wrap inside an elephant pillow. It is adorable and he loves it at home! When we got to school and he reached for his bag, he noticed it and said "MOM! Why did you pack this one? My friends will laugh at it!"

?!?!

He is 3 and already so aware of his peers and surroundings! This was hilarious and devastating all at the same time.

Kids Say...

Last week, I buckled Luke in his car seat and then walked around to buckle X in. As I was making my way around the car I heard X whisper to Luke: "Lukey, if you fall out of your seat I will catch you because you are my baby and I love you."

OH MY GOODNESS.

He is so precious! My heart exploded :)

I love these little nuggets so very much!

Kids Say...

Setting: X jumping on his trampoline

Xavier singing very loudly: "For mamas you say 'yes ma'am' and for daddies you say 'yes sir!'"

He usually sings nonsense words so this song was hilarious to us :)

Kids Say...

X: Mama! When Santa comes, don't set the "Robot Danger" (home alarm system).

Me: Santa will come down the chimney so we can still set it.

X: (Thinking very hard) Hold on a second...doesn't that mean the bad guys can come down th chimney and take my presents?!

He then proceeds to go get his Jake sword and put it by the fireplace "just in case."

Kids Say

Me: Xavier, who is your best friend?

Xavier: Hmm...Ryder, Charlie, Rylan, Ryker....

Me: What about girls? Don't you enjoy playing with Ari and Felicity?

Xavier: (Rolls his eyes) Ew Mom...I don't play with girlies!


And so the cooties stage has begun!

Kids Say...

Setting: Aunt Louise's farm around LOTS of people.

X: "Mom! Mommy! Mom! Come here! Come here! I have to show you something!" (Pulls me excitedly toward the pigs in the pig pen.)

Me: "What?! Show me!!"

Xavier: (Points in the opposite direction of the piglets and I am momentarily bewildered) "PIG POOP!!"

Strangers nearby: laughing hysterically

Dustin: (Takes Xavier's toy) "Mine!"
Xavier: "Daddy James! Give it back!"

After much investigating, we determined that we call him Xavier James when he is in trouble so he thought you just add on the word 'James' when someone is in trouble! Ha!

Me: (Takes a bite of Bean's apple)
X: Mom, Are you kidding me?!?

Kids Say...

Setting: Xavier is playing on his train table while I am switching laundry.

Xavier: "Mom, I gotta go potty!"
Me: "Ok- Let me put the towels in the dryer and then I will help you."
Xavier: (Runs into the laundry room dramatically and starts waving his hands) "Mom! I have to go poop and I can't hold it! HURrrrrrrRRRrry!"
Me: (Drops towels, grabs 3 year old, runs.)

We made it :)

Kids Say...

Daddy: "Whitney, will you take this crap inside?"

Xavier: "Daddy, don't say crap!"

Daddy: "Daddies can say it. Babies can't though."

Xavier: "Yah, I don't say crap now. I will say crap when I higher."

*Notice how he manages to say the forbidden word several times throughout the conversation. Also, notice how he refers to getting older as getting higher.  :)

Kids Say...

Dustin and I were talking a couple nights ago about how hilarious the conversations we have with Bean are. Then it hit me, why am I not blogging about this?! I immediately decided to start a new label titled "Kids Say" so that we can start sharing with you the funny things that he says. I know that one day I will look back at this and laugh and hopefully he will, too!

The specific conversation that prompted this enlightened movement went as follows:
